Our History

1998 September - Founding of Community for Christ Mission

In September 1998 a group of the founding members started a work at St. George's Estate, off Serangoon Road. One of our founding members, Dr. Lee Chon Sham, had a clinic in the area, and as he interacted with his patients, he found that many of them had emotional and psychological problems as well. It was hoped that a ministry could be started to address these problems by sharing with the people in the community the love of God. We registered the work as Community for Christ Mission making it clear that our mission was to reach out to the community of St. George's Estate for Christ.

CFC began humbly with a group of about seventeen adults, or eight families, in a dilapidated old shophouse along Serangoon Road. The group met every Sunday as a church, and Rev. Wan Chee Wan was appointed the first Pastor. Not long after, the church moved to a slightly bigger unit, 6A, above the kopitiam in the same row of shophouses where Dr. Lee has his clinic, to accommodate the growing membership. Some time later the Mission also rented 6B and a unit in Block 3 of the estate where we started a Children's Centre for pre-school kids. Some other activities which were carried out in those days to fulfill our mission were games activities usually on Sunday evenings, a soccer club catering to young people in the estate, and a children's club.

1999 Registering of Community For Christ Church

In 1999 the mission decided to register itself as a church. The change was a mere formality, as by this time, we were functioning more like a church than a mission. As the membership grew, the church needed to look for larger premises.

2000 Moving to River Valley Road

So, in 2000, we moved out of St. George's Estate to 179, River Valley Road.

2010 October - Moving to Jalan Pemimpin

We were at River Valley until 2010 when the landlord (LTA) informed us that the property was earmarked for redevelopment. So in October 2010 we moved to the Jalan Pemimpin neighbourhood where we are currently located.

Jalan Pemimpin is in a residential neighbourhood, unlike River Valley, which was in a commercial district. We had projects of community outreach, like TCM talks, a Parenting Seminar with Focus on the Family, outings to Malaysia, as opportunities to invite and interact with folks in the neighbourhood.
